ASPHALT FLAT ROOF CONSTRUCTION, REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT WITH AN EPDM RUBBER ROOFING MEMBRANE

An EPDM rubber roof can be bonded to existing asphalt roofs, but this needs to be the FlexiProof Fleece-Backed EPDM Membrane.

It cannot be bonded to uneven surfaces such as shingles, as this hinders the membrane from successfully bonding to the surface.

If you plan to place a rubber membrane across an existing roof covering, you must ensure the surface is suitable for bonding.

  • Is the existing structure free of any rot? It’s essential that you check the existing structure and deck for any signs of rot.
  • If left unaddressed, the rot may spread and affect the integrity of the roof.
  • Asphalt and shingles aren’t ideal for a rubber membrane to be bonded onto.
  • However, for surfaces such as felt, overlaying and adding a Fleece Backed EPDM rubber roof is perfect for protecting the existing roof coating.
