DOES IT HAVE TO BE DRY TO LAY RUBBER ROOFING?

For an EPDM rubber roof to be installed correctly and achieve the best results, the rubber membrane requires the substrate (surface) to be dry before and during installation.

Although installing an EPDM rubber roof is far easier and requires no specialist tools, the conditions must be dry.

Adhesives, primers, and tapes are usually required when installing the EPDM rubber membrane on the surface. If the surface is damp, the EPDM products and membrane will not successfully adhere to it.

WHAT ARE THE BEST CONDITIONS TO INSTALL A RUBBER ROOF?

We recommend installing a rubber roof on a dry day that isn’t too cold. Many products, such as adhesives and primers, are more difficult to use due to setting times and condensation forming on the surface of solvent-based adhesives.

This is because the substance used won’t form a strong bond with the surface and could cause your roof to peel away. How do you fit a rubber roof?

It’s incredibly important that the surface to which you plan to bond the rubber membrane is dry and free of debris before beginning the application. Using a broom or brush to sweep the roof clear will ensure the surface is smooth and clear for the EPDM rubber to be applied.
