WHY EPDM RUBBER IS THE PERFECT SHED ROOF REPLACEMENT AND MATERIAL

In the UK, it’s common for homeowners to use felt for their shed roof. However, felt is vulnerable to moss and algae growth isn’t highly-resistant to extreme weather conditions and is more susceptible to tear easily.

This is why we strongly recommend an EPDM rubber membrane sheet for your shed roof replacement. It’s the ideal solution as it boasts a number of physical properties compared to felt. The benefits for a rubber roof for your shed include:

  • A proven life expectancy of  50 years and over
  • Resistant to moss or algae growth
  • Environmentally friendly and recyclable
  • Easy install and application – no heat needed
  • Minimal maintenance needed
  • Doesn’t crack, split or rot

At Rubber Roofing Direct, our range of shed roof kits include all the tools needed for fast and easy installation. When it comes to searching for the perfect shed roof replacement or material, we believe that EPDM rubber is the perfect material simply because of the little maintenance it needs.

Once you install your new EPDM rubber roof kit, you can expect your shed roofing to have a 50-year life expectancy. The EPDM rubber membrane is resistant to UV, rain, moisture and hot and cold temperatures. Which is the reason why EPDM shed roof kits are becoming the most popular choice on the market.

Yes, an EPDM rubber shed roof covering is durable enough to walk on though we would suggest limiting the amount of foot traffic it gets to maintenance and cleaning tasks. Ensure that your shoes’ underside doesn’t have anything sharp on them, for instance, small stones in your footwear grooves as they can puncture the rubber roofing.

Before installing the rubber membrane, it is essential that the substrate surface is completely dry to ensure that it adheres properly. In addition, the surface should be cleaned and free of any particles, debris, and residue from bitumen, grease or oil.

Yes, it is recommended that installation be carried out at a minimum temperature of  5° C. As we mentioned above, EPDM won’t adhere to a wet surface so installing your new rubber roof kit in the rain isn’t advised. So in a nutshell, a dry day that isn’t too cold.

Our roof kits are supplied with the EPDM rubber membrane sheet, adhesive and roller. You will need some standard tools on hand such as a soft broom, knife or scissors, hammer and galvanised clouting nails or a timber batten. We stock a complete range of affordable, high-quality tools needed for professional or DIY installation projects you can view all our EPDM rubber roofing tools here.

Very little maintenance is required once you have installed your rubber roof kit; this is another great advantage of EPDM.
