EXTERNAL CORNER PATCH

STEP 1 Ensure that the membrane around the external corner is clean, dry and free from dust or debris. Using a pencil, mark a small vertical line 60 mm from each edge of the cut membrane. STEP 2 Measure the distance between the 2 pencil lines being careful to measure accurately around the corner. Cut the 229 mm flashing tape to exactly this length and then shape the bottom external corners of the tape to give an aesthetically pleasing finish. STEP 3 Carefully open the...

INTERNAL CORNER DETAIL

STEP 1 Form the membrane into a 45 degree (pig’s ear) shape where the membrane meets in the internal corner. STEP 2 Cut the pig’s ear vertically 80 mm out from the flat roof corner STEP 3 Cut a patch of 229 mm flashing tape 160 mm wide and offer over the pig’s ear and mark around with a scribe or pencil. STEP 4 Fold back the pig’s ear and keeping within the lines, apply EPDM primer with a scrubbing pad. STEP 5 Firstly check primer is fully...

BUTT JOINING EPDM MEMBRANE WITH 152MM COVER STRIP

STEP 1 Draw a line 90 mm each side of the membrane join with a pencil or scribe using a straight edge as a guide. Keeping within the lines apply EPDM primer with a scrubbing pad. STEP 2 Once the primer is touch dry, carefully align the tape along the join and progressively remove the poly backing at a 45 degree angle and smooth into place by hand. STEP 3 Once the tape is fixed in place pressure must be applied with a seam...

INSTALLING THE FLEXI PROOF EPDM MEMBRANE

STEP 1 Unroll the FlexiProof EPDM membrane over the substrate so that the sheet is in the desired position. Carefully open the tub of deck adhesive and stir. Using a medium pile roller on a pole apply the deck adhesive evenly to the main area of roof deck paying attention to leave a 150 mm strip on the roof edge to be bonded with contact adhesive STEP 2 Once adhesive coverage is achieved progressively place the membrane into the wet adhesive and broom into...

ROOF SURFACE PREPARATION

The prepared roof surface must be clean, dry, free from dust, and contaminants (bitumen, oil etc). Do not attempt to install EPDM on a damp or wet surface as the trapped water may vaporize causing damage to the roof sub-structure. When applying banding adhesive to the roof deck in temperatures below 5 degrees Celsius, condensation can form on the top layer. If this happens, do not continue with the installation. Wait until weather conditions improve before attempting the installation again....

PITCHED ROOF SLOPES ONTO THE FLAT ROOF

STEP 1 Carefully strip 3 courses of tiles from the adjoining roof and remove the roofing battens. Carefully lift the existing pitched roof underlay and apply contact adhesives to the back of the EPDM membrane and to the roof lay board. Once the contact adhesive has tacked off stick the EPDM membrane to the layboard. STEP 2 Lap the roof underlay over the top of the EPDM membrane and re-attach the tile battens. STEP 3 The top of the EPDM membrane must be at least 300...

FITTING WALL TRIMS AND LEAD FLASHING

STEP 1 Before installing the EPDM membrane make sure the mortar is chased out of the joint to allow installation of the lead flashing or wall trim. Doing this first allows removal of the dust and protects the membrane from damage. Make sure all dust is cleaned out of the newly chased out mortar line, this can be done using an air blower or dusting brush STEP 2 Once the membrane has been bonded vertically up the wall using contact adhesive install the...

COPING STONE DETAIL

STEP 1 With the coping stone removed, bond the membrane over the parapet wall leaving a 30 mm gap from the external wall face, seal the membrane edge onto a bead of water block mastic STEP 2 Bed the coping stones over the parapet wall using a tough sand and cement mortar mix of at least 3 and 1 ratio with added PVA adhesive for extra strength. Note: EPDM expands in hot weather and can crack weak mortar.

USING TERMINATION BARS TO JOIN TO OTHER ROOFS

STEP 1 Overlap the FlexiProof EPDM membrane onto the adjoining flat roof system by 60 mm. STEP 2 Lift up the FlexiProof EPDM membrane to expose the adjoining roof system and apply a thick bead of water block mastic the length or the overlap. STEP 3 Flap the FlexiProof membrane onto the water block mastic and fit the termination bar over the top using self sealing screws to create a compression seal. STEP 4 Remove any excess membrane using a craft knife and seal off the...

INSTALLING THE 68MM – 110MM ROOF DECK DRAINS

STEP 1 Cut down the roof drain leaving a 50 mm equal flange the whole way around, drop the roof drain into the preformed hole. STEP 2 Fix the roof drain down onto the roof deck using countersunk screws. Note: if you channel out a section underneath the roof drain in the timber deck the same thickness as the plastic of the drain flange this will allow the drain to sit flush with the roof surface prior to application of the flashing tape STEP...
