Are EPDM roofs any good?

Since the 1960s, EPDM rubber roofing has been used for roofs across the world. EPDM roofing involves using a rubber membrane that is applied to a flat surface. The elastomer is a rubbery material and has all the physical properties for long-term performance at a low maintenance cost.

What are the benefits and advantages of an EPDM Rubber Roof?

  • Cost. Unlike other traditional materials, EPDM roofs are far cheaper. Furthermore, the rubber membrane requires minimal maintenance throughout its lifetime, which makes the material cost-effective. The material is lightweight too.
  • Environmentally friendly. The roof membrane used for the roof requires far less energy for manufacturers and it’s 100% recyclable. An EPDM is also energy efficient too, insulating your home or shed throughout colder months.
  • Long-Lasting. Rubber roofing is extremely durable. It isn’t prone to moss or algae growing on it or prone to being damaged. An EPDM roof is very easy and cost-effective to repair too. Compared to other materials, there are fewer seams, meaning it’s extremely rare for a rubber roof to leak. It also absorbs heat rather and isn’t damaged by it, and is resistant to UV rays, making it suitable for hot climates.

It’s generally made from recycled rubber and other materials and it remains one of the least expensive types of material used for roofing today.

Rubber roofs have also been used by homeowners across the world for the past 40 years.

With a life expectancy of 50 years, you can be assured that your roof will be protected for the future.
