Asphalt flat roof construction, repair and replacement with an EPDM Rubber Roofing Membrane.

Asphalt flat roof construction, repair and replacement with EPDM Rubber Roofing Membrane

An EPDM rubber roof can be bonded to asphalt but this depends on the rubber membrane system you are using. It cannot be bonded to uneven surfaces such as shingles as this hinders the membrane from successfully bonding onto the surface.

If you’re planning on placing a rubber membrane across an existing roof covering, you’ll have to make sure that the surface is suitable for bonding.

  • Is the existing structure free of any rot? It’s incredibly important that you check the existing structure and deck for any signs of rot. If left unaddressed, the rot may spread and affect the integrity of the roof.
  • Is the surface suitable for an EPDM rubber roof? Asphalt and shingles aren’t suitable for a rubber membrane to be bonded onto. However, for surfaces such as felt, an EPDM rubber roof is ideal for adding protection to it and further insulating your roof.
